Genesis Block is the first block ever minded on its respective blockchain network. Multiple “blocks” containing confirmed transactions and activity data are connected together by a metaphorical chain in a blockchain.
A crypto asset’s “blocks” contain referential data for the preceding ones and derive their value or legitimacy from them. The genesis block refers to the initial block of a new blockchain (Block 0 or Block 1), to which all subsequent blocks are linked.
A genesis block is distinct since it is the only block in a blockchain that does not relate to a previous block.
